Slang of the Week: himbo (noun)
an attractive but stupid and promiscuous man

Brad wanted to be an astronaut, but his brother Jeff only dreamed of becoming a himbo.

Himbo is a word meant to challenge the double standard. Normally, a woman who sleeps with many men is insulted as a slut or hoe, while a man who does the same is given the complimentary title of player.

But this term levels the playing field. You might recognize it as the male form of bimbo, a brainless woman who has sex with many partners. But you might not know that that word originally described men.

Of course, when it was a term about men, it wasn’t negative. Back in the early twentieth century, a bimbo was a young man, from bambino, the Italian word for baby. But by the 1920s, it was being used about female prostitutes. Happily, himbo appeared in the 1980s so that we can insult people of both sexes.
